The Higher School of Technology and Management – ESTIG, created within the scope of the Castelo Branco Polytechnic Institute, IPCB, by Decree-Law No. 355/90 of 10 November, emerged as an instrument for the modernization and development of companies in the region of Castelo Branco, thus responding to a desire expressed several times by the living forces of the region. The aim of its creation was to reinforce the productive fabric through a tripartite action, that is, through the training of qualified higher-level technicians, the carrying out of research projects and the provision of technical-scientific support services to the community.
The School began teaching six undergraduate courses: Civil Construction Engineering, Communications Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Accounting and Management. The Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Castelo Branco (ESTCB) was born after the extinction in 1997 of the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão (Decree-Law no. 153/97 of 20 June), resulting in the creation of two schools: ESTCB, in Castelo Branco and ESGIN, Escola Superior de Gestão, in Idanha-a-Nova.
The Higher School of Technology is one of the six IPCB Schools and is strategically located in the leisure area of the city, next to the Business Center of the Castelo Branco Region and the industrial zone of the city. The ESTCB campus occupies a total area of 43,000m2, with its built area divided into 4 blocks with different heights and interconnected, forming a harmonious whole and inserted into the surrounding landscape. To support sporting activities, the School has a multi-sports field which is located next to the Castelo Branco leisure area. Currently, the training offer is quite diverse, including Higher Professional Technical Courses (CTeSP), Bachelor's Degrees, Master's Degrees, Certified Training Courses, Distance Learning courses and Short Courses. The courses at this School are characterized by a high employability rate of their graduates and substantial demand from employers.
